Dynamic effort involves lifting a non-maximum weight as fast as possible to build explosive power. This training method focuses on the speed of the movement rather than the total amount of weight. Athletes use moderate loads but apply maximum force to move the bar with high velocity. This type of practice trains the nervous system to recruit muscle fibers quickly for competition lifts. An athlete performs ten sets of two fast repetitions with sixty percent of their maximum. Moving the bar with great speed helps the lifter overcome heavy weights during the official snatch. This approach prevents the athlete from becoming slow and sluggish during high volume training blocks.
