Mobility Work Meaning in Weightlifting

Mobility work refers to the specific exercises and stretches used to improve the range of motion in joints. Weightlifters focus on the ankles and the hips and the shoulders to reach the deep positions required. Having good mobility allows an athlete to sit in a low squat while keeping a vertical chest. This practice prevents injuries by ensuring the body can handle the stress of heavy weights in difficult angles. A lifter performs ten minutes of ankle stretches before starting their daily snatch training to improve balance. This work helps the athlete move more fluidly and achieve the correct technical form during every single lift. Consistent mobility training is just as important as lifting heavy weights for long term success in the sport.
