Training Block Meaning in Weightlifting

A training block consists of a specific multi week period focused on achieving one primary physical or technical goal. Coaches divide a long term plan into these smaller sections to organize the development of strength and speed and skill. A block might focus on building muscle mass while the next block focuses on maximum power for an upcoming meet. This structured approach allows the athlete to focus their energy and recover properly before moving to the next phase. An athlete follows a four week training block dedicated entirely to improving their overhead stability and snatch technique. Concentrating on specific weaknesses during these dedicated times leads to much better results during the final competition session. These blocks usually last between three and six weeks depending on the specific needs of the individual lifter.
