Hand Paddles Meaning in Swimming

Hand paddles are flat plastic devices worn on the palms during swimming training sessions. These tools increase the surface area of the hands to create more water resistance. Swimmers use them to build upper body strength and improve their awareness of technique. The extra pressure makes it easier to feel the water during the pulling phase. An athlete wears neon green paddles during a long set of freestyle repetitions. Using paddles for too long can cause shoulder strain if the technique is poor. Coaches assign paddle sets to help swimmers develop a more powerful and efficient stroke. This equipment helps athletes identify exactly where their hand might be slipping in water.
