Kickboard Meaning in Swimming

A kickboard is a buoyant foam board that swimmers hold to isolate their leg muscles. By resting the arms on the board, the athlete focuses entirely on their kicking technique. This tool helps build lower body strength and improves the endurance of the leg muscles. Swimmers typically hold the board at the top or sides while keeping their heads above water. An athlete uses a blue kickboard to practice their breaststroke kick for ten straight laps. Using a board allows the swimmer to breathe easily while working on their foot positioning. Coaches often use these boards during the warm-up or dedicated leg strength portions of practice. It remains one of the most common and effective training aids for swimmers of all levels.
