Half Court Press Meaning in Netball

A half court press is a defensive tactic where a team marks opponents starting from the center line. This strategy allows the attacking team to move freely in their own defensive end. Once the ball crosses the middle of the court, the defenders apply intense pressure. This setup aims to trap the ball carrier near the sidelines or the center. A wing defence blocks the path of an attacker at the transverse line. Teams use this method to conserve energy while still protecting the goal third. The sudden increase in defensive intensity often leads to a hurried passing error. One real-world example shows a team sitting back until the center pass reaches the middle.
