Inside Shoulder Meaning in Netball

The inside shoulder describes the side of the body closest to the goal post. Attacking players use this physical marker to position themselves for a better scoring angle. Turning toward this shoulder allows a shooter to shield the ball from a defender. This technique creates a clear path for the ball to reach the shooting hand. A goal shooter pivots on their inside shoulder to face the ring for a shot. Proper alignment helps the player maintain balance while preparing to release the ball upward. This specific body orientation makes it much harder for a defender to reach the ball. One real-world example features a shooter turning inward to catch a pass near the post.
