Intercept Attempt Meaning in Netball

An intercept attempt occurs when a defender tries to catch a pass meant for an opponent. The player must time their jump or reach perfectly to touch the moving ball. This action requires high levels of anticipation and very quick physical reactions on court. Defenders often risk leaving their own player to chase a ball in the air. A goal keeper makes an intercept attempt by lunging toward a lobbed entry pass. Even if the defender only tips the ball, it can disrupt the offensive flow. Successful attempts often turn a defensive situation into a fast break for the team. One real-world example shows a defender diving forward to knock the ball away from an attacker.
