Lob Pass Meaning in Netball

A lob pass is a high, arching throw used to move the ball over a defender. The ball travels in a rainbow shape to reach a teammate on the other side. This pass is particularly useful for getting the ball to a tall scoring player. It requires a soft touch to ensure the ball does not fly out of bounds. A wing attack uses a lob pass to send the ball over the goal keeper. Defenders find these throws hard to stop because of the height and steep angle. However, a lob pass that is too slow gives the defense time to react. One real-world example shows a center lofting the ball over a crowded midcourt.
