Post isolation is a tactic where a team clears space to leave a shooter one-on-one. The other attacking players move away from the goal post to take their defenders with them. This creates a large empty area where the shooter can use their skill to beat one defender. This strategy is very effective when a team has a tall or very agile goal shooter. A team uses post isolation to give the shooter room to lead and catch a pass. It prevents the defense from double-teaming the most dangerous scoring threat on the court. Success in this play depends on the other attackers drawing their markers out of the circle. One real-world example shows the goal attack moving to the edge to isolate the shooter.
