A rebound occurs when a player gains possession of the ball after a missed shot attempt. The ball bounces off the ring or the backboard area and becomes available for any player. Both attackers and defenders must react quickly to secure the ball before it touches the ground. This skill requires excellent timing, vertical jumping ability, and strong hands to grab the ball. A goal keeper catches a rebound to prevent the attacking team from taking a second shot. Proper body positioning before the shot helps a player shield their opponent from the ball path. Winning the rebound is a critical way for the defensive team to earn a turnover. One real-world example features a shooter grabbing their own missed shot to try for a goal again.
