Strong Side Meaning in Netball

The strong side refers to the half of the court where the ball is currently located. Attacking teams focus their immediate efforts on this side to maintain possession and move forward. Defenders must shift their positions toward the strong side to block passing lanes and apply pressure. Recognizing the strong side helps players understand where the most intense physical contesting will happen next. A wing attack drives toward the strong side to support a teammate who is being marked. By overloading the strong side, the offense can create quick passing triangles to beat a defensive press. Players on the opposite side must remain ready to receive a cross-court pass if play stalls. One real-world example involves all seven defenders moving toward the left sideline to cover the ball.
