Underload Play Meaning in Netball

An underload play is a tactical situation where the offense has fewer players in an area than defenders. This scenario usually occurs intentionally to draw the defense away from a primary scoring target on court. By leaving one side of the court nearly empty, the team creates space elsewhere for a fast lead. It requires the remaining attackers to be highly efficient and mobile to beat multiple defensive markers. A team uses an underload play by moving the wing attack away to isolate the shooter. This strategy relies on the distraction of the defenders to create a sudden opening for the ball.
