Weak Side Meaning in Netball

The weak side is the half of the court furthest away from where the ball is held. Defenders often focus their attention on the ball carrier, leaving more space available on this opposite side. Savvy attackers use the weak side to make a surprise lead into open territory for a pass. This movement forces the defense to turn their heads and change their body positioning very rapidly. A wing attack sprints into the weak side to receive a long cross-court pass from the center. Exploiting this area prevents the defense from crowding the ball and helps maintain a balanced attacking structure. It is a key concept for any playmaker looking to stretch the opposition across the full court. One real-world example involves a shooter leading to the empty side of the circle to score.
