Definition: The infield is the part of the baseball field closest to home plate, consisting of the four bases and the diamond-shaped dirt area connecting them. It is where the most frequent and fastest defensive action takes place during a game.
Example: The grass in the infield was cut short to make sure ground balls rolled smoothly to the fielders.
