Definition: A line drive (or “liner”) is a ball hit very hard and fast in a nearly straight line, staying relatively low to the ground. Because of its high speed and direct path, it gives the defense very little time to react or move into position.
Example: The batter crushed a line drive that zipped past the pitcher’s head and landed in the outfield for a single.
