Flanking describes the tactical movement of players toward the extreme left or right court edges. This maneuver creates a wide pincer formation to surround the opposing team during the game. A player creeps along the sideline while their teammates distract the defenders from the middle. This wide angle makes it difficult for opponents to hide behind their own teammates. Teams use flanking to trap the last remaining players on the other side of the court. Effective flanking requires fast footwork and constant communication between all active members on the floor. Defenders often fail to see throws coming from the far edges of their peripheral vision. This positioning forces the defense to turn away from the primary group of attackers.
