Ground Ball Meaning in Dodgeball

A ground ball is any ball that touches the floor during active play. Once a ball hits the ground it usually becomes dead and cannot eliminate players. A player scoops up a rolling ball to return it to the stash. This action requires bending low while staying aware of incoming throws from the opponents. Ground balls often occur after a missed throw or a successful block by defenders. Players must act quickly to retrieve these balls before the other team grabs them. Touching a ground ball does not result in an out for the active player. Managing the number of balls on the floor is key to controlling the game.
