Group Catch Meaning in Dodgeball

A group catch occurs when multiple players attempt to catch the same incoming ball. This situation happens when a ball flies toward a crowded area of the court. Two teammates reach out and secure the ball between their hands at once. This successful catch results in the thrower being out and a teammate returning. Communication is vital to prevent collisions between players trying to make the same play. Most rules count the catch as long as the ball never hits the floor. One player usually takes the lead to ensure a clean and safe grab. This teamwork reinforces the defensive strength of a unit during a high pressure match.
