Perfect Game Meaning in Baseball

Definition: A perfect game is a rare masterpiece where a pitcher (or multiple pitchers) completes at least nine innings without a single player from the opposing team reaching base. This means no hits, no walks, no hit batsmen, and no errors—exactly 27 batters face the pitcher, and all 27 are put out.

A perfect game is the highest achievement for a pitcher, far rarer than a no-hitter. In over 150 years of professional baseball history, it has only happened a few dozen times. Because a single mistake by a teammate (like an error) or a single walk by the pitcher ruins the “perfection,” the tension in the stadium usually becomes unbearable as the game enters the final innings.

Example: The pitcher retired the final batter with a strikeout to complete the perfect game, as not a single runner reached base all night.
