An indirect hit occurs when a thrown ball strikes an object before hitting. This object might be another ball, a wall, or even a different player. A ball bounces off the back wall and then hits a defender’s leg. In most official rules, this type of contact does not result in elimination. The ball is considered dead once it touches any surface or out-of-bounds area. Players must distinguish between a direct flight and a ball that has deflected off. This rule prevents accidental outs from unpredictable bounces during a very crowded match. Understanding what counts as a direct hit is vital for all new players.
