An ineligible player is someone who cannot legally participate in the current game. This status often applies to players who were already eliminated in that round. A player stands on the sideline after being hit by an opponent’s ball. This person cannot reach onto the court to interfere with any live balls. Ineligible players must wait for a teammate to catch a ball to return. Some leagues also use this term for players who are not on the roster. Playing with an ineligible person can lead to a forfeit for the entire team. Keeping track of who is active is the job of the head official.
