A kick-save occurs when a player uses their foot to deflect an incoming ball. This defensive move prevents the ball from hitting the player’s body or the floor. A defender swings their leg to knock a low throw away from the zone. Most rules state that the ball remains live after touching a player’s foot. This means a teammate can still catch the deflected ball for an out. Using the feet requires excellent timing and very quick reactions during the game. Players must keep their balance while kicking to avoid falling onto the court. This skill is particularly useful for defending against low and fast power throws.
