Slide Meaning in Dodgeball

A slide is a defensive maneuver where a player drops to the floor to dodge. This move involves gliding on the knees or side to move under a high ball. A defender slides across the hardwood to avoid a throw aimed at their chest. Sliding is an effective way to change levels quickly and surprise the attacking team. However it leaves the player in a vulnerable position on the floor for a moment. Players must practice recovering from a slide to get back into their ready stance fast. This technique is best used on smooth indoor surfaces where the player can move easily. It is a dramatic and effective way to stay alive during a heavy barrage.
