Spreading the court is a strategy where a team uses the entire width of space. Players move to the far left and right sidelines to create many different angles. A team positions three people in the center and two on the far edges. This formation forces the defense to turn their heads and lose track of some balls. It prevents the opposing team from focusing all their energy on one central target area. Spreading out makes it much harder for the opponents to use a single throw. Effective court coverage requires constant movement and communication between all of the active players. This tactic is the best way to open up gaps in a defense.
