A squeeze play is a tactical bunt used to score a runner from third base. The batter bunts the ball while the runner at third sprints toward the home plate. This move requires perfect timing between the hitter and the fast-moving baserunner in play. It is a high-risk strategy that can result in a very quick run. A batter lays down a bunt as the runner from third slides home safely. The defense is often caught by surprise because of the sudden and aggressive movement. This play works best when the game is tied or in a low scoring match. Coaches use the squeeze play to force the defense to make a difficult throw. Successful execution of this bunt is a hallmark of a well-coached offensive team.
