Third Baseman Meaning in Softball

The third baseman is the defender who plays near the third base bag area. This position is often called the hot corner because balls arrive very fast there. The third baseman must have excellent reflexes to stop hard hits and bunts. They also need a strong arm to throw across the entire infield dirt. A third baseman dives to stop a sharp line drive near the foul line. The player then fires the ball to first base to record a difficult out. This role is vital for defending against bunts and aggressive base running plays. Third basemen stand closer to the hitter than most other infielders during the game. Their proximity to the batter requires bravery and a very quick glove hand.
