Triple Meaning in Softball

A triple occurs when a batter hits the ball and reaches third base safely. This hit usually requires the ball to travel deep into the outfield corners or gaps. The batter must sprint past first and second base without being tagged by a fielder. Recording a triple is much rarer than hitting a double or a single during a game. A batter drives a ball to the right field fence and slides into third. This successful play puts the runner in a perfect position to score on any hit. Speed and aggressive base running are the most important factors for achieving this specific result. Outfielders must play perfectly to prevent a fast runner from turning a double into a triple. It remains one of the most exciting and high energy plays in the sport of softball.
