Definition: The World Series is the annual championship series of Major League Baseball (MLB), played every October between the winner of the American League and the winner of the National League. It is a “best-of-seven” series, meaning the first team to win four games is crowned the champion.
Because it takes place at the very end of the season, it is often called the “Fall Classic.” The winning team receives the Commissioner’s Trophy and individual championship rings for every player. It is the highest level of professional baseball in the world, representing the ultimate goal for every player and team from the moment Spring Training begins.
Example: The city held a massive parade after their team won the final game of the World Series to become world champions.
