Definition: The bottom of the inning is the second half of an inning, during which the home team gets their turn to bat while the visiting team plays defense. It always follows the “top” half of the inning.
In baseball, the home team always has the advantage of batting last. If the home team is already winning when the game reaches the bottom of the final inning, they don’t even have to play it because they have already won. If they take the lead during this time, the game ends immediately in what is called a “walk-off” win.
Example: The score was tied 3-3 heading into the bottom of the inning, giving the home team a chance to win the game with just one run.
