A corner throw occurs when the ball goes out over the outer goal line. This rule applies only if a defending player last touched the handball. The attacking player stands at the corner intersection of the sideline and goal line. They must keep one foot on the floor while throwing the ball back. Opponents must maintain a distance of three meters from the player taking the throw. A wing player takes a corner throw to restart the offensive scoring play. This situation allows the attacking team to retain possession deep in the opponent’s half. The thrower usually passes to a teammate near the top of the arc. Execution must be quick to prevent the defense from organizing a solid wall. Corner throws provide a strategic opportunity to set up a planned scoring play.
