A goal throw is a restart taken by the goalkeeper after a miss. This happens when the ball crosses the outer goal line after an attack. The ball must have been last touched by an attacker or goalkeeper. The goalkeeper takes this throw from anywhere inside the six meter goal area. No whistle is required from the referee to restart the play from here. A goalkeeper throws the ball to a wing player after a wide shot. This action allows the team to start their offensive buildup from the back. The ball is considered in play as soon as it leaves the hand. Opponents must stay outside the goal area until the ball is finally thrown. The goal throw is a basic but essential part of goalkeeper duties.
