Left Wing Meaning in Handball

The left wing is a fast player who occupies the far left corner. This position requires excellent agility and the ability to shoot from very tight angles. The left wing stays near the sideline and sprints during every fast break. They often jump into the goal area to find a better scoring perspective. Defensively, the left wing guards the opponent’s right wing player near the corner. A left wing leaps from the corner to score a spectacular diving goal. This player must have great balance to land safely after a high-speed jump. Being right-handed is often a disadvantage for this specific position on the court. Coaches look for players with high speed and clinical finishing skills for this role. The left wing is a primary target for long passes during transition play.
