Overarm Throw Meaning in Handball

An overarm throw is the most common way to pass or shoot handball. The player raises the ball above their shoulder before releasing it with force. This technique provides the most power and accuracy for long distance scoring attempts. A high release point makes it difficult for defenders to block the ball. Most jump shots use the overarm throw to reach the top net corners. A backcourt player uses an overarm throw to score from nine meters out. This motion allows the player to use their entire body for maximum velocity. Beginners must learn to snap their wrist to give the ball better direction. Proper arm technique prevents shoulder injuries during a long and intense handball match. This throw is a fundamental skill that every player must master very early.
