Overload defense is a tactical response to an offensive overload play by opponents. The defensive unit shifts extra players to the side where the ball is. This ensures they have enough people to cover every single attacking player nearby. Communication is vital to ensure no attacker is left completely unguarded during play. Defenders must move as a single unit to maintain the defensive wall’s shape. The defense shifts three players to the left to stop a wing attack. This movement prevents the offense from using their numerical advantage to score goals. Success depends on the speed and agility of the defenders as they slide. Players must also stay aware of attackers moving on the far side court. Proper overload defense keeps the scoring zone protected against complex team offensive plays.
