Pick and Roll Meaning in Handball

Pick and roll is a tactical play involving an attacker and a pivot. The pivot sets a pick by standing still to block a defender’s path. The ball carrier then moves past the pick to create a scoring chance. After the block, the pivot rolls or turns toward the goal for pass. This maneuver creates a two-on-one situation against the remaining defensive court players. An attacker uses a pick and roll to get open for a shot. This play requires perfect timing between the ball carrier and the line player. If the defender switches, the pivot is usually left open near the goal. Teams practice this play to exploit mismatches in the opposing team’s defensive line. It remains a fundamental and highly effective strategy in modern team handball offense.
