Shot Power Meaning in Handball

Shot power refers to the velocity and force a player generates during a throw. High power makes it difficult for goalkeepers to react and block the ball. Players use their legs core and shoulders to create maximum energy for the shot. This physical attribute is especially important for backcourt players shooting from long range. Developing shot power requires specific strength training and perfect throwing mechanics during a game. A left back uses massive shot power to score from the ten meter. This force allows the ball to travel past the defense before they jump. Goalkeepers must be brave to face shots traveling at over one hundred kilometers. Consistent power puts constant pressure on the defensive wall and the opposing goalkeeper. Modern handball training emphasizes explosive movements to increase the overall power of every shot.
