A feet-first entry is a landing where the diver’s feet touch the water first. This type of entry is mandatory for certain dives within the competitive list. The diver must keep their legs straight and arms tight against their sides. This position helps the athlete slice through the water with very little splash. One example of a feet-first entry is the conclusion of a basic jump. Judges look for pointed toes and a perfectly vertical body line at impact. This landing style requires the diver to stay rigid to avoid any injury. It is often easier for beginners to learn before moving to head-first dives. Proper body alignment is just as critical here as it is for somersaults. This entry concludes many lower-difficulty dives used in preliminary rounds of competition.
