A handstand reverse is a dive that begins from an armstand position. The athlete faces the water while balancing on their hands at the edge. They then perform a backward rotation while their body moves away from platform. This creates a reverse spinning motion relative to the starting forward-facing stance. This dive belongs to the armstand group and requires exceptional spatial awareness. The diver must hold the handstand for several seconds before the actual takeoff. One example of this is a reverse somersault performed from a handstand. Judges look for a clean and controlled push away from the concrete tower. Maintaining a tight body position helps the athlete rotate safely and quickly. This maneuver is considered very challenging due to the counter-intuitive direction of travel. It is a high-scoring dive often used by the most experienced athletes.
