Ashi-Jime refers to a leg strangulation technique used during ground combat in judo matches. The attacker uses their legs to apply pressure to the sides of the neck. This action restricts blood flow to the brain and forces the opponent to submit. One leg typically hooks under the chin while the other pushes against the head. This move allows the attacker to keep their hands free for other defensive actions. A referee stops the match if a competitor loses consciousness or signals defeat. Maintaining a tight squeeze requires strong core muscles and flexible hip joints during the hold. This choke remains effective because legs are significantly stronger than the opponent’s neck muscles.
