Ko-Soto-Gari-Makikomi is a minor outer reap combined with a winding fall. The attacker sweeps the leg while wrapping the body of the opponent. Both players roll to the ground together as the throw concludes. The attacker uses the weight of the torso to ensure the fall. This winding action makes the throw very difficult to escape or counter. One game example shows a player falling onto the opponent for control. This technique ensures the attacker stays on top after the throw. The momentum of the roll helps to drive the defender down. Strategy involves committing the entire body weight to the downward rotation. This move is effective when a simple sweep does not finish. It provides a strong transition from a standing position to a pin.
