Koshi-Guruma is a hip wheel throw that uses the head and arm. The attacker wraps one arm around the neck of the opponent. The hips slide across the front of the body of the defender. This position creates a pivot point for a large rolling motion. One game example involves throwing the opponent over the side of the hip. The defender travels in a circle before landing on the back. This throw requires the attacker to pull the sleeve very hard. Proper execution involves a deep bend in the knees for the lift. Strategy involves catching the opponent when they lean too far forward. This move is a classic example of using the hip as a lever. It remains a very popular throw for beginners to learn.
