Kuzure-Kesa-Gatame is a broken scarf hold pin used from the side. The attacker sits next to the ribs and traps the near arm. Instead of wrapping the neck, the arm goes under the shoulder. This change provides a more stable base against certain escape attempts. One game example shows a player transition to this hold during ground work. The legs spread wide on the floor to maintain a heavy balance. This pin forces the defender to stay flat on the back surface. Success requires the attacker to pull the trapped arm upward very tightly. Strategy involves keeping the ribs pressed firmly against the chest of the opponent. This variation is often safer than the standard scarf hold for beginners.
