Sode-Guruma-Gaeshi is a counter technique used against a sleeve wheel strangle attempt. The defender feels the attacker starting to wrap the arms around the neck. Instead of allowing the choke, the defender rotates the body to escape. A quick shift in position allows the defender to reverse the attacker. One game example shows a player escaping a choke to gain the top. This move requires the player to stay calm while the neck is attacked. Success depends on the timing of the rotation and the hip movement. Strategy involves using the grip of the attacker to pull them over. This reversal allows a player to turn a dangerous choke into a pin. It teaches athletes how to defend the neck during ground fighting exchanges.
