Tomoe-Nage is a circular sacrifice throw performed by falling onto the back. The attacker places one foot on the stomach of the defender. Falling backward pulls the opponent over the head in a large arc. This motion uses the leg as a prop to launch the defender. One game example involves a player throwing an opponent for a full point. This move requires the attacker to stay very close to the opponent. Success depends on the timing of the drop and the leg extension. The defender travels through the air and lands flat on the back. Strategy involves using the pushing force of the opponent to start the fall. This technique provides a spectacular way to score from a defensive position. It remains a very popular choice for players in international judo competition.
