Tsubame-Gaeshi is a swallow counter throw used against a foot sweep attempt. The defender feels the attacker starting to sweep the foot sideways. Instead of falling, the defender lifts the foot and sweeps back quickly. This motion resembles the fast and agile flight of a swallow bird. One game example shows a player scoring after being attacked with a sweep. This move requires the player to have extremely fast reactions and balance. Success depends on the timing of the counter sweep against the attacker. Strategy involves staying light on the feet to move before the impact. This technique allows a player to turn a defensive moment into a win. It teaches athletes how to anticipate the movements of the opponent during combat. Proper execution leads to the attacker falling onto the mat surface.
