Mawashi Zuki is the roundhouse punch that travels in a wide circular arc. A student swings the arm horizontally to strike the side of a target. The fist moves from the outside toward the center line of the body. This punch allows a practitioner to reach around the guard of an opponent. A student uses this strike to hit the temple or the side ribs. The lead foot must pivot slightly to allow the hips to turn fully. Keeping the wrist straight prevents injury when the knuckles make contact with targets. This punch provides a powerful alternative to the standard straight-line punching techniques. It requires careful timing to ensure the strike lands with the correct knuckles.
