Morote Uke is the augmented block where both arms work together for strength. A student places the secondary hand near the elbow of the blocking arm. This additional support makes the block much harder for an opponent to break. This technique is ideal for stopping very heavy or high-speed incoming attacks. A practitioner uses this block when an opponent tries to rush forward with force. The hips must remain square to the front to support the double-arm structure. Both knees stay bent to provide a grounded and heavy base for defense. This move demonstrates the importance of using the whole body for a block. It provides a very high level of protection for the head and chest.
