Teisho Uchi Meaning in Karate

Teisho Uchi is a palm heel strike that hits with force. The practitioner pulls the fingers back to expose the hand base. This strike mimics the solid impact of a heavy hammer. It targets the chin, nose, or the ribs of an opponent. A fighter uses this move to avoid breaking their knuckles. The palm provides a large and durable surface for hitting targets. This technique requires a straight arm thrust or a swinging motion. Rotating the hips at the moment of impact increases the power. The user keeps the wrist rigid to protect the small joints. This strike works exceptionally well for self-defense at a close range. Using the body weight behind the hand enhances the total force. It is a safer alternative to a standard punch for beginners. Regular training helps the student master the correct hand angle.
