Heian Yondan Meaning in Karate

Heian Yondan is the fourth form in the series and emphasizes flow and rhythmic movement. This pattern introduces several new techniques like the rising knee strike and cross block. It uses the back stance extensively to teach students how to defend from different angles. The movements transition from slow and controlled to fast and explosive during the sequence. Practitioners focus on using open hand techniques to deflect attacks and grab the opponent. An athlete performs a double arm block to stop a high strike in a match. This form teaches the practitioner to use the entire body to redirect an oncoming force. Dropping the center of gravity provides more stability when executing powerful blocks and strikes.
